EMSWCD Headwaters Farm

This week our managers had the pleasure of attending EMSWCD's Headwaters Farm Open House! The East Multnomah Soil & Water Conservation District does tons of incredible things all over town, but their Headwaters Farm serves as a site for research, demonstration of conservation agriculture practices, stewardship, and is home to their very special Incubator Program.

This 60-acre property on the outskirts of Gresham seeks to aid the development of new farm businesses by providing affordable access to land and farm resources. This is an incredible opportunity for folks with farming experience that are ready to launch a farm of their own, and we got to learn all about their program and tour the farm first-hand, followed by a wonderful panel of past and present students of the program.

One of our main goals as a market is to lower barriers for small farms, and quite a few farms that have been through this program have been vendors at our market! Supporting small local farms so that we can conserve natural spaces, protect farmland for future generations, and help build a resilient and sustainable food system for our community are key values of ours, and we're so grateful to be a part of such an important community!
