Our mission

Rocky Butte Farmers Market’s (RBFM) mission is to provide NE Portland residents with access to affordable, seasonal, locally grown foods and artisan products. The market’s primary goal is to support small farms, reducing barriers to participation for beginning and underrepresented vendors. RBFM strengthens connections within our diverse community by offering a safe, welcoming, and inclusive gathering space.

More than just a market, RBFM strives to be an impactful community resource - collaborating with neighboring organizations and gardens to provide services to underserved community members, increase access to education and food security, and positively impact the ecology, health, and overall community well-being.

We’re committed to creating a safe space for everyone!

Rocky Butte Farmers Market does not and will not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, gender expression, age, national origin, disability, marital status, sexual orientation, or military status, in any of its activities or operations. These activities include, but are not limited to, the appointment to and termination from its Board of Directors, hiring and firing of staff or contractors, selection of volunteers, selection of vendors, and providing of services.

Beyond this, we are committed to building an inclusive and safe space for everyone in our community. We have zero tolerance for discrimination of any kind at the market - from our staff members, Board of Directors, vendors, volunteers, or customers. We prioritize underrepresented and marginalized vendors, striving to reduce barriers and increase market accessibility. We are dedicated to doing our part to increase community resilience for all of our neighbors, while actively and regularly examining our unconscious biases. We’re always open to suggestions on how we can be creating a more equitable and accessible community space, and are happy to make any needed accommodations. It began with a Passionate group of friends

In 2017, a Facebook poll was created in the Madison South neighborhood group. 96% of folks voted that they’d like a farmers market in the neighborhood, and Rocky Butte Farmers Market was born!

Starting as two pop-up markets at Dharma Rain in the summer of 2019 and growing to monthly markets at the Manna House in 2021, the early days of the market were fully run by a hard-working group of neighbors, friends, and volunteers.

In 2022, the market grew to a weekly market and the first official staff was hired! The market moved to its current location at NE Siskiyou and 80th at the beginning of the 2024 season, where the staff team, market season, and vision for the market grew.

Now at the start of its 6th season as a market, Rocky Butte Farmers Market is always growing and evolving! As a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit, the market prides itself on not following the normal market business model, but focusing on providing a supportive space for new and underrepresented vendors, and growing into a vital community resource.
